Calf Management.

Calf Management at Sabzazar Farm:

  1. After birth the navel cord of the calf is treated with iodine.
  2. The calf must be shifted into its cage within 24 hours of birth.
    1. For the first few days after birth, the Colostrums must be drunk by the calf as much as possible.
    2. 8 to 10 Kg of body weight must be given 1 Kg of milk and this quantity of milk should be increased according to the increase in this body weight.
    3. The calf drinks 5 Kg of milk on a daily basis and this 5 Kg of milk must be divided and drunk three times a day for the first 2 to 12 weeks.
    4. The calf starter (Wanda) must be eaten at lib by the calf for the first 60 days. After the said days, for the next 10 months the quantity provided of the same Calf starter (Wanda) must be 1 Kg daily.
  3. 10 days after birth the Calf is injected with 1 cc Butalex injection.
  4. De-worming is started after one month or as and when required.
  5. 60 days old calf comes out of its cage and is then shifted to the Calf shed.
  6. A small quantity of green fodder is started for a two months old calf.
  7. The mortality rate of calves on Sabzazar Farm for the years 2011 and 2012 has been 6 %.
